HornDogz feat. Ty, Breis & Peeda - Movin' On (Uptone Records)

As you'll probably know if you're a regular visitor, I'm an avid fan of Ty, so today I was mega excited to receive an EP from 'HornDogz' featuring his unmistakable vocals.

HornDogz are an incredible 3-piece jazz/soul/funk collective who released their full album last year, although I'm really sorry to admit it passed me by.

With collaborators and credentials spanning many an ocean, the HornDogz project have worked alongside the likes of Amp Fiddler and numerous other top-drawer session musicians, as well as covering for the P-Funk horn section with the one and only George Clinton.

This 3-tracker includes a brass-o-rific, sexy party jam in the shape of 'Movin' On', as well as the kick-back 'La Trompeta O Yo' and their own soulful guitar-led strip of the A-side.

Check the video - it's sick. I'm on the chase for the album as well, so will post a stream if I manage to get hold of it.

Ty - Kick Snare and An Idea Part 2 (Tru Thoughts)

Wow - Ty smashes yet another blinder out the park on 'Let's Start', the A-side from 'Kick Snare and An Idea Part 2'.

A massively catchy and energetic party anthem, Ty breathes his trademark character into a devastating peak-time hip-hop smash. Heavy live bass is driven by an incessant horn section sure to call any floor to order. Alongside a mega-catchy melody, Ty leads the dance amidst an aural frenzy of vocal ad-libs and vinyl splices.

Ty - Kick Snare and an Idea Pt 1 (Tru Thoughts)

I was so overexcited when I heard the news that Ty was signing to Tru Thoughts in January. I still remember the first time I heard ‘Closer’ as its addictive rhythm and distinctive, warm vocal managed to grab my attention above a load of hustle in the student bar one random day at uni - check the vid above. Since then, it’s been great to hear his style develop, and it’s hugely reassuring to know that the UK rapper is going to be working with the kings of Brighton eclecticity, as the tie-up seems like a great match for Ty’s innovative, fresh style and will, I’m sure, make for some wicked future collaborations.

Ty’s first TT release is ‘Kick Snare and an Idea Pt 1’, a 3-tracker of timeless beats and vocal melodies. The lead track ‘Like You Never’ showcases the outstanding quality of Ty’s production work, with soulful stabs and swirling FX blended into a beautifully complex yet perfectly balanced hip-hop rhythm. The package then features more of the same on ‘Knock Knock’ and ‘Playing with Fire’. For heavy rotation.
