The Golden Boy - Higher EP (HK Records)

More old skool, big room action on the first outing from Ministry's new 'HK' imprint, with the label looking to release underground, on trend house music. And with The Golden Boy's 'Higher EP' they do just that.

Taking us straight back to that dance sound of the 90s that seems to be ever-prevalent in 2013, the up-and-coming producer provides a slab of big room action with throbbing speed garage bass, massive piano hooks and stratospheric vocal builds.



2013 seems to be at the intersection of rave, bass and deep house culture, retro in its feel, clinically contemporary in its finish. This release epitomises the sound and with the likes of Disclosure pushing this it into mainstream consciousness, I'm sure this release will be remembered as a classic within this new and exciting genre.

Another summer anthem - expect to hear this EVERYWHERE in Ibiza this year.

Debian Blak - Six Months From Mars EP (Audio Doughnuts)

Another label I'm super chuffed to be working with is Audio Doughnuts, an independent label founded in a West London houseboat back in 2010.

Through a string of successful club nights across the City featuring top name guests such as Jamie XX, Julio Bashmore and Zed Bias, the label continues to go from strength to strength. Its latest release comes from relative newcomer Debian Blak with his 'Six Months From Mars' EP. 

Since emerging in 2011, Debian has become a go-to producer and remixer for music royalty such as Laura Mvula - praise indeed. This latest outing features 4 tracks of heavenly electronica - some call it indie, or bass, others dubstep, and some would liken it more to the choppy MPC stylings of Ta Ku or Flume. Whatever you call it, this is a super soulful, progressive soundscape that draws you further in on every listen. Soaring pads, sharp, harmonised leads and atmospheric percussion are the order of the day; it sounds familiar, but you're not too sure. This is an EP which builds a musical curiosity that'll have you hooked.

Scrimshire - Convergent (Wah Wah 45s)

'Convergent' is the first cut from Scrimshire's much anticipated third album 'Bight', out in May.

Adam has been keeping his fans bang upto date at every stage of the album-making process, which was only finished a few short weeks ago. As such, it's great to hear this first release, a slight departure from his previous long-player with more of a electronic feel and a truly unique dark and melancholic vibe (think James Blake, Jamie Woon territory). That said, 'Convergent' still maintains all of the character of Scrimshire's previous releases, with gorgeous guitar work and razor-sharp production providing a perfect showcase for the man himself on vocals. Can't wait to hear the album!

'Convergent' is out on 15th April via Wah Wah 45s. Mixes will be coming from Yosi Horikawa, Mazoulew and more.
